Copiague group holds walk for Red Ribbon Week

On Saturday, October 20, Copiague Community Cares hosted its Annual “Walk for Awareness Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse.” Many dedicated volunteers gathered at the Copiague Rail Road station to participate in the awareness walk to Tanner Park. The volunteers, which included the Copiague FD Juniors, SCPD 1st Precinct Explorers, local residents and supporters, removed trash along the walk route and tied vibrant red bows on the decorative downtown lampposts honoring Red Ribbon Week.

Red Ribbon Week brings awareness to the importance of the annual campaign to support nationwide anti-drug programs, live a drug-free life and to take a stand against drugs. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated during the week of October 23-31. It is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention and awareness program. Displaying and wearing red ribbons during Red Ribbon Week represents the pledge to live drug free and honors the sacrifice of all who have lost their lives in the fight against drugs.

The Town of Babylon Beautification Program and Senator John Brooks thanked the volunteers as well as Copiague Community Cares Founder and President Sharon Fattaruso for their dedication and commitment to keeping the Copiague community safe and drug free. Sharon Fattaruso was also praised for her tireless efforts to raise awareness through the annual community walk and red ribbon display in Copiague involving our youth and keeping Copiague neighborhoods clean and litter free.
