The Town Clerk's office is a multi-faceted office which is charged with being the chief records keeper for the town. The Town Clerk's office maintains the minutes for all Town Board meetings, the zoning board, the two-family review board, the planning board, and all other boards governing the town. This office has records dating back to 1827 of town laws, resolutions, ordinances and other town business in original form and on micro-film. There are four basic functions that this office performs: Records Management, Registrar of Vital Statistics, Marriage Officer, and Licensing Officer.
Records Management: The Town Clerk's office maintains all active files and stores inactive files in the town's archives. Records can be retrieved by use of a computerized filing system.
Registrar of Vital Statistics: the clerk's office is the keeper and issuer of all birth and death records and files burial permits for cemeteries located within the town.
Marriage Officer: a person of legal age or with parental permission can obtain a marriage license from the Town Clerk and have wedding services performed.

Licensing Officer: The Town Clerk's office has the authority to issue state and town licenses and permits for various things: marriages; dogs; hunting and fishing; going out of business; bingo; games of chance; boat berths; beach buggy's; clamming; block parties; plumbers; tow truck operators; street openings or excavations; peddlers and junk yard dealers.
Passport Application Center: The Babylon Clerk's office is now a passport application acceptance facility that functions much the same as Post Office acceptance facilities. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
