In Case of an Emergency: At Home
The best defense in time of emergency is to be aware. Practice exit drills in your home and make sure that you and your family know at least two ways out of your home in case of an emergency. Make sure that your children recognize the smoke detector sound and that when it goes off, that it is an evacuation alarm sound. Don't forget to agree upon a central meeting place outside of your home in advance of an emergency.
Away From Home
When you are at work or in an unfamiliar building, such as a restaurant, store or office building, take time to familiarize yourself with the exit signs. Know at least one other way to get out in case of an emergency, besides the way you entered the building.
