All four centers provide recreational, cultural, advisory, and health programs. Activities include arts and crafts, computer and dance instruction, painting, billiards, outdoor games, parties, and trips. The Suffolk County Office of the Aging provides all four senior centers a congregate meal plan, in which seniors may enjoy a nutritious meal at each center in a socially engaging environment. Breakfast is served daily at the Wyandanch and North Amityville centers and lunch is served daily at all four centers. Seniors who are home bound are directed to Catholic Charities, who will assess the seniors’ needs and upon approval will register them for home delivered meals.
Additionally, the centers provide advocates from the Suffolk County Office for the Aging who assist the seniors with any personal issues they may encounter. Appointments with the advocates can be made directly through each center.
Seniors also receive assistance with the Heat Energy Assistance Program, IT214 forms (property tax credit for low income families) Medicaid and food stamps.
Transportation is available for eligible senior residents to medical appointments (including physical therapy) within the Town of Babylon. Also, trips to Town Hall for payment of taxes and tax exemption applications and the social security office in Babylon are also available. Transportation is also provided for supermarket shopping. Appointments for all transportation must be made one week in advance. For further information, call (631) 422-7618 or (631) 893-1056.
