Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone announced that the newly proposed Tanger site in Deer Park will implement a transportation system to provide trolley service from the Deer Park train station to the Tanger site. The new transit oriented plan will provide convenient access to Tanger by train. It is estimated that this new system will remove a minimum of 450,000 cars annually from the roadways.
'We believe this effort will help to significantly reduce the amount of vehicular traffic traveling to the site," said Supervisor Bellone. "This transit oriented plan, coupled with creation of the Tanger rail spur, will definitely help to mitigate traffic around the Tanger site." "We are very pleased that we have been able to create a system that will assist visitors to the site as well as address the concerns of the residents of the area," said Ed Blumenfeld, President of Blumenfeld Development Corp.
The trolley service will coincide with the Deer Park train schedule and will be available as soon as the train arrives to the station. The trolley will transport passengers to the site via a "right of way" that will run parallel to the LIRR tracks. The transit oriented plan is fully developed and is awaiting approval from Suffolk County Department of Public Works.
