Steve Bellone was born in Queens on September 11, 1969. His family settled in North Babylon two years later. A graduate of North Babylon High School, he earned a BA degree at Queens College in 1991.
Enlisting in the US Army in 1992, Supervisor Bellone served as a Communications Specialist stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During his service in the Army, he was awarded commendations for meritorious service and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration by attending night classes at Webster University. Supervisor Bellone earned his Law degree from Fordham University and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1999.
After his honorable discharge from the military, Supervisor Bellone was appointed by Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer to serve as his Community Service Aide in 1995. In 1997, he was elected to the Babylon Town Board in his first run for public office, defeating a two-term incumbent.
Supervisor Bellone created the Town of Babylon Beautification program during his first year in office. The initiative combines the energy of nonprofit neighborhood groups, scouts, business owners and others to improve the appearance of intersections, side streets and community parks. Supervisor Bellone also created and chaired the Town of Babylon Millennium Committee. He wrote and produced the first made-for-television documentary about the history of the Town of Babylon. He organized the collection and cataloguing of records and cultural artifacts placed in the town's time capsule, buried on the grounds of Babylon Town Hall at the close of the century.
Supervisor Bellone began his term as Babylon's 30th Supervisor in January of 2002. Supervisor Bellone is a resident of Lindenhurst.
