Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Babylon has had to modify its summer plans and programs in order to protect the health of our residents, neighbors and staff. While this summer will certainly be different than years past, the Town of Babylon is determined to do all that it can to make our cherished parks and beaches available for our residents to enjoy this season. Please use this page to find information on the rules for the 2020 season, changes that have been made and any cancellations/closures that may occur due to the current public health situation.

Beaches

  • KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Visit the Town of Babylon Parks Facebook page for information regarding Town of Babylon beach capacity and closures or sign up here for e-mail updates.
  • WHILE ON THE ROAD: Check existing signs on the Southern State Parkway and temporary signage along both Sunrise and Montauk Highways before the Robert Moses Causeway for information regarding beach traffic/capacity/closures.
  • Parking along Ocean Parkway is ILLEGAL. DO NOT attempt to park on Ocean Parkway to access beach facilities. Violators may be ticketed or towed.

The Following Applies to Overlook Beach, Cedar Beach, & Gilgo Beach: 

All beaches are 50% Capacity. 

Beach passes are required beginning June 13. These facilities will remain restricted to Town of Babylon residents only until 5PM every day EXCEPT OVERLOOK BEACH - 6PM

All Ocean Beaches: 
2020 Beach Sticker Required: 8 am - 5 pm (6 pm for Overlook Beach)
Lifeguards are on duty between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm.

Residents will only be allowed to wade into the ocean to waist deep. 

Salt Shack will be open at Overlook Beach & Cedar Beach. The Gilgo Beach Inn will be open at Gilgo Beach. *Outdoor dining is now allowed.

In accordance with current regulations, beach playgrounds are currently closed. Beach sports are also prohibited. 

Face coverings are required when walking around the beach. A face covering is not needed when in the ocean or when sitting at your area on the beach. 

A face covering is required when interacting with beach staff. 

Restrooms will be open 8 am to 8 pm. Shoes and masks are required when using the restroom. Residents must wash hands with soap and water when using the restroom. 

Residents must space six feet apart from all groups. Please keep your distance when picking a spot on the sand. Social distancing is very important. 

The Following Applies to Tanner Park & Venetian Shores: 

Beach stickers are required starting June 20. These facilities will remain restricted to Town of Babylon residents only until 5PM. 

Facilities are 50% Capacity. Swimming is prohibited at Tanner Park beach and Venetian Shore beach. 

Bay beaches will not have lifeguards on duty until the facility officially opens on June 20. 

In accordance with current regulations, playgrounds and fields are currently closed. Beach sports are also prohibited. Tennis courts are open for use.  

Katch will be open at Venetian Shores. *Outdoor dining is now allowed.

Bathrooms will be open at Venetian Shores. Shoes and masks are required when using the restroom. Residents must wash hands with soap and water when using the restroom. 

Sully’s Warf at Tanner Park will open on June 20.

Residents must space six feet apart from all groups. Please keep your distance when picking a spot on the sand. Social distancing is very important.

Parks & Rec Summer Beach Permits

Parks & Recreation Summer Beach Permits will go on sale Monday, June 1st at the Phelps Lane pool in North Babylon. Permits will be sold CREDIT CARD ONLY.

As a result of COVID-19, Supervisor Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Martinez and the Town Board have decided to lower the permit fees for this summer. By reducing fees, we are able to give our residents a little relief while also collecting the necessary funding to keep our facilities clean and well-staffed for our visitors. 

 Resident Recreation Permits: $35 (normally $45)
 Senior, Volunteer Firefighter and Veteran Recreation Permits: $15 (normally $20)*
 *Volunteer firefighters and Veterans must have a valid ID at time of purchase


- Permits will ONLY be sold at the Phelps Lane Pool for the ENTIRE SEASON. Permits will NOT be sold at Tanner Park or the Cedar Beach Marina at any point during the summer.
 - Permits will be on sale from 12pm to 6pm Monday-Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
 - Wearing masks/face coverings is required to purchase a permit to keep both you and our employees safe. NO MASK = NO SALE.
- Residents must remain in their car for the entirety of the transaction. Please have all relevant documentation and your credit card within arms reach before pulling into the lot.

Camping, Boating & Jet Ski Permit Sales

In person only at 151 Phelps Lane in North Babylon. Must have face covering. One person per household. 

Monday - Friday: 8:30 am – 1:00 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Requirements:

  • Camper, Boat, and/or Jet Ski Registration
  • License
  • Tax/Utility Bill (Accepted Bills: Property Tax Bill, PSEG, National Grid, Suffolk County Water Authority, Lease Agreement, Pay Stub, W-2)
  • Campers: Camper Tow Vehicle Registration

*All names and Town of Babylon addresses must match on all documents.*

Marinas

  • Social distancing required at all times while on-site.
  • There is no congregating on docks, in parking lots, or boat ramps.
  • There is no “rafting,” or tying together of boats between different groups for socializing purposes.

Playgrounds 

Town of Babylon playgrounds are currently open to the publicWe ask that those visiting maintain social distancing and wear a mask or face covering.
