Abandoned Vehicle Unit
Responsibilities of Division:
The Abandoned Vehicle Unit, a division of the Town Attorney's Office, is responsible for the removal, redemption and disposal of abandoned vehicles seized by the Town for being in violation of the Town of Babylon Uniform Code of Traffic Ordinances.
How to Report an Abandoned Vehicle:
To report an abandoned vehicle to the Town of Babylon, please call the Office of Citizen Services by dialing 3-1-1 or (631) 957-7474. You can also fill out the Report a Concern form. Please be as descriptive as possible when describing the vehicle and its location.
How to Claim an Impounded Vehicle:
The Abandoned Vehicle Unit release cars Monday thru Friday between the hours of:9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Only the titled owner will be able to reclaim the vehicle.
The titled owner must appear with the title, identification and form of payment (call ahead to confirm amount) and their identification during the above hours at the front lobby of the Town of Babylon Municipal Building at North Amityville, located at 456 Albany Avenue in Amityville.
If the owner of the vehicle is a corporation, only an Officer of the Corporation can reclaim a vehicle and must present proof of relationship to the corporation such as corporate books, tax return or state incorporation papers.
If the reclaimed vehicle is not registered, it must be towed from the impound by a Babylon licensed town truck. We will provide a current list of approved companies. Tow driver will meet the owner at the Department of Public Works impound lot located at 1023 N. Indiana Avenue in Lindenhurst after the paperwork is complete and fee paid.
Vehicle owner will be handed two copies of the release form. One copy for their records, and one to give to the DPW employee releasing the vehicle at the impound.
Fees for Towing are as Follows:
Automobile - $150 plus $75 per day storage, $225 if claimed on day of tow
4-6 Wheel Truck - $200 plus $100 per day storage, $300 if claimed on day of tow
6-8 Wheel Truck - $300 plus $150 per day storage, $450 if claimed on day of tow
8-16 Wheel Truck - $400 plus $200 per day storage, $600 if claimed on day of tow
Tractor or Trailer - $500 plus $250 per day storage, $725 if claimed on day of tow
16 Wheel & above - $600 plus $250 per day storage, $850 if claimed on day of tow
Tractor-Trailer - $600 plus $250 per day storage, $850 if claimed on day of tow
