About the Recycling Center
The Town’s Department of Environmental Control operates the Town’s recyclable materials drop off Center. The Center also accepts non-recyclable materials for a fee. Refer to the Town’s Recycling Calendar for a list of recyclable and non-acceptable items as well as other programs offered by the Center. The Center receives waste that residents feel can’t be picked up at the curb. Not all items, however, will be accepted. Unacceptable items include explosives, ammunition, automobile body parts, etc.
The Center is located at 57 Field Street in West Babylon and the hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. If you have any questions concerning the Residential Recycling Center, please call (631) 249-9346 or (631) 249-9347.

- Why weren’t my can/glass recyclables picked up?

Recyclables should be placed at the curb in a blue Town of Babylon Recycling pale or in a clear plastic bag the night before your scheduled pickup. If you did this and your items were still not collected, please call Encon at 631-491-3200 for assistance.
- Why weren't my newspapers/cardboards picked up?

Newspaper / cardboard recyclables should be placed at the curb in a brown paper bag or tied up the night before your scheduled pickup. If you did this and your items were still not collected, please call Encon at 631-491-3200 for assistance.
- Where can I get a new Town of Babylon Recycling can?

- I threw something valuable out in the garbage. Can I retrieve it from the truck?

Please call Encon at (631) 491-3200 if you mistakenly threw out an item. It can only be retrieved if the truck hasn’t been emptied into the pit yet. Once it’s dumped onto the tipping floor – it is too late to retrieve any items.
- I have confidential files that I would like to discard by burning. What is the process for a special burn?

- You need to fax over a request to Tom Vetri, Commissioner, Department of Environmental Control at 631-422-7686 stating which Wednesday, what time, and how many boxes need to be burned, so the Commissioner can approve it. Once approved we call you to schedule the burn.
- We charge a $250.00 Administrative fee for anything up to and including 3 tons.
- Additional files are $100.00/tons.
- Who picks up my yard waste?

- Who collects garbage in the Villages?

Encon collects garbage in the Village of Amityville as well as the unincorporated communities of the Town of Babylon. The Villages of Lindenhurst and Babylon have their own sanitation collection departments and schedules. For more information:

No. Payment at the Recycling Center in only accepted in the form of cash.

- What do I do with paints, stains, solvents, driveway sealer, antifreeze, insecticides, gasoline and other Household Hazardous Waste?

The Town holds 2 S.T.O.P Days a year. You may bring these items to the S.T.O.P Days on second Saturday in April and October from 8:00 -2:30 at the Town of Babylon Recycling Center at 57 Field Street, West Babylon.
- What do I do with car parts, chain link fence, poles, wood fence?

Car parts can go to the junkyard.
Chain link fence can be brought down to the recycling center or scheduled for a special pick-up. The Recycling Center is located at 57 Field Street in West Babylon, off Edison Avenue they are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 2:30 pm.
Wood must be cut into 4 foot lengths and put out in 50 Ib. bundles at your curbside on your Thursday or Friday garbage days, or brought to the Recycling Center, 57 Field Street in West Babylon from the hours of 8:00am to 2:30 pm. Any further questions call 631-249-9346. Wood brought to the Recycling Center is chargeable at $100.00/ton and $20.00/minimum.
- What do I do with mattresses, furniture (couch, loveseat, dresser, bedroom set, etc….)?

One item of furniture will be taken with each garbage pickup. Make sure that household garbage and furniture are at the same location.
- What do I do with propane tanks, car batteries, household batteries, appliances (white goods), tires, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, telephone books, catalogs?

Propane tanks, car batteries, household batteries, appliances (white goods), tires, cardboard, newspapers , magazines, telephone books, catalogs – are accepted free of charge at the Recycling Center, 57 Field Street in West Babylon from the hours of 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. - How do I dispose of a boat?

Bring it to the Town of Babylon Recycling Center at 57 Field Street West Babylon. Just drain all the fluids – we charge $100.00/ton/$20.00/ Minimum
- Can I dispose of roofing shingles at the Recycling Center?

We do not accept roofing shingles; you can bring them to a commercial dump.
- How do I dispose of large debris from a home remodel?

Encon will pick up 2 items (no greater than 50lbs) on your Thursday or Friday garbage day. You may also bring it to the Recycling Center or a Commercial Dump for a fee.
- What do I do if I have more garbage than fits at the curb after a home clean up??

You can hold what doesn’t fit and put it out at the curb the following week, or you can bring it to the spring or fall STOP Day clean ups (see the Recycling Calendar for dates) at no charge. You can also bring it to the Recycling Center or a Commercial Dump for a fee.

You can leave it out for your garbage or you can donate it to the ADOPT- A BIKE PROGRAM and bring it to the Recycling Center, 57 Field Street in West Babylon, between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:30 pm. Any further questions call 631-249-9346.

You can either bring it back to where you purchased your propane or you can bring it to the Recycling Center, 57 Field Street in West Babylon, between the hours of 8:00am and 2:30 pm. Any further questions call 631-249-9346.

You can put out one passenger vehicle tire (with or without a rim) on your Thursday or Friday pick-up day curbside, or you can bring up to 4 to the Recycling Center, 57 Field Street in West Babylon, between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:30 pm. Any further questions call 631- 249-9346.
- Do you accept boat trailers as well?

Yes. We need the boats registration (if you do not have the registration then we need the New York registration number off the side of the boat) – CASH ONLY. What do we do with the gas from the boat? Bring to the STOP Day.
