Wyandanch Rising
About
Wyandanch is a hamlet in the Town of Babylon, with a predominately African-American and Hispanic Population. According to a 2000 Suffolk County Planning Report, Wyandanch was the most economically distressed community on Long Island. In the early 2000's Wyandanch's downtown lacked a sense of place or identity and suffered from blighted conditions, with many vacant businesses and boarded up buildings.
The Wyandanch Rising Vision:
- Affordable, market rate and workforce housing
- Creation of career and construction job opportunities for Wyandanch residents
- Development of local businesses and economic growth
- New space for community gatherings, cultural arts, health and wellness clinics and recreational areas
- Collaborative efforts with organizations in the greater Suffolk County area for social and educational advancement
- Focusing on healthy and environmentally-friendly values and lifestyles
Wyandanch Implementation Committee
The Wyandanch Rising Implementation Committee was established in approximately 2004, comprising a core group of residents, business owners, clergy and civic leaders to work with the Town to oversee the implementation of the community vision. This Implementation Committee has met continuously for over twenty years to guide the revitalization and act as liaisons between the Town and the Wyandanch community.

- Can I hook up to the sewer lines being installed for Wyandanch Rising?
-
If sewer lines are being placed directly in front of your house there is the possibility of hooking up to them. A very few homes in the area will have access to these hook ups. Specific information relating to the question of individual hookups must be requested from the engineering team responsible for the project.
If interested and logistically capable of being hooked up, the homeowner would be responsible for all fees and permits associated with gaining access to the sewer line. Contact Rich Groh, Senior Environmental Analyst, Town of Babylon (631) 422-7644 for more information.
Suffolk County is the official entity with ultimate jurisdiction over sewer development and hook up.
Contact the Suffolk County Sewer Agency, Craig Platt, (631) 852-4187, for more information.
