On Friday, July 19, over 1,000 riders braved the heat for a 25 mile bicycle ride through the Town of Babylon to support wounded veterans as part of the Town’s Sixth Annual Soldier Ride. An opening ceremony was held at Town Hall in Lindenhurst where Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer announced that $105,000 was raised as a result of the ride, which will benefit both the Wounded Warrior Project as well as victims of last fall’s Superstorm Sandy.
Over 40 wounded servicemembers from the United States and the United Kingdom joined the hundreds of participants on the 25 mile bike ride, which began at Town Hall and wound its way throughout the Town, ending at Overlook Beach on Ocean Parkway. Once the riders reached the finish line at Overlook Beach they were treated to a barbeque with refreshments.
