Supervisor Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Martinez and Councilmen Manetta and McSweeney welcomed Eric Post, Long Island Director for the American Jewish Committee (AJC Long Island) to Town Hall this afternoon to help light a menorah in celebration of the fourth night of Hanukkah. Village of Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata was also in attendance.
AJC Long Island connects the Jewish community with the American Jewish Committee’s global advocacy work to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel and ensure democratic values and human rights for all. Under the leadership of Director Post, the Long Island chapter of AJC has created a Municipal Leaders Against Antisemitism initiative, which Supervisor Schaffer and Mayor Lavorata are helping to lead. Deputy Supervisor Martinez also presented a proclamation on behalf of the board thanking AJC Long Island for their work in the community.
“I want to thank Eric for his leadership and commitment to working with municipal leaders across Long Island on this very important initiative,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “Now more than ever it is very important for local leaders to stand with and support the Jewish community, and I along with Mayor Lavorata and my colleagues on the board are proud to do so. We wish all of our residents a very Happy Hanukkah and hope this year’s Festival of Lights is a time of shared reflection and celebration.”
