LINDENHURST, NY – The Town of Babylon honored Lindenhurst School Security Officer Michael DeGregorio by presenting him with the Heroism Award, the Town’s highest honor, at a recent Town Board meeting. DeGregorio, an Ex-Chief of the Lindenhurst Fire Department, and a retired member of the NYPD, currently continues to serve the Lindenhurst community as a security officer in our schools.
On March 27, 2023, school security was notified of an altercation on the 2nd floor of the Lindenhurst Middle School. Ex-Chief DeGregorio proceeded to the location and noticed a student against the wall bleeding profusely from his right leg and a teacher rendering aid. He removed his belt to be used as a tourniquet to control the bleeding until EMS personnel arrived on scene.
“With an injury as severe as this wound was, every second counts,” said Councilman and Public Safety Chairman Terence McSweeney. “Ex-Chief Mike DeGregorio was in the right place at the right time, and the Lindenhurst community is lucky to have him in our schools focusing on the safety and well-being of the children,” he added.
