The intersection of Great Neck Road and Dixon Avenue in Copiague has been ceremoniously renamed Sgt. Franco A. Pacheco Way.
Sgt. Pacheco was a highly decorated Marine, earning many commendations. After returning home from military service, Sgt. Pacheco continued to serve his community by dedicating countless hours to assist and offer support to veterans like himself who suffered from PTSD.
Sgt. Pacheco was also the Commander of the Copiague VFW Post 9482. In March 2021, Sgt. Pacheco was diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma, yet continued to work and volunteer until his death on Dec. 7, 2021.
