[ARCHIVED] Supervisor Schaffer Joins High School Skateboard Club to Re-Open Tanner Skate Park

Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and other local officials recently joined members of the Copiague High School SOUL Skaters Skateboard Club for the grand re-opening of the Tanner Park Skate Park. Supervisor Schaffer was joined by Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilwoman Jackie Gordon, Town Clerk Carol Quirk, Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma and Suffolk County Legislator DuWayne Gregory.

The Town was forced to close the skate park three years ago after it had fallen into disrepair as a result of accumulating wear and tear due to the waterfront location. Utilizing cost savings from other repairs at Town facilities following Superstorm Sandy, the Town contracted with Rampage, a specialized skate park repair company, to restore the park. The park will be utilized regularly by groups like the Copiague High School SOUL Skaters Skateboard Club, who were a major force in the prompting the re-opening of the skate park.

Pictured with the skaters are Councilwoman Gordon; Jeanette Altruda, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Principal; Jaime Suarez, SOUL Skaters Advisor; Legislator Gregory; Town Clerk Carol Quirk; Damin Gomez, SOUL Skaters Advisor; Joe Mannix, SOUL Skaters Advisor; Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma; Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez; and Supervisor Schaffer.
