Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer would like to remind residents to consult their new 2014 recycling calendars for information on the Town’s new yard waste collection system that will be implemented starting January 2nd, 2014. Yard waste will now be collected according to Yard Waste Zones (YWZ), which are broken down by region. Yard waste includes tree branches, leaves, brush and grass clippings. Residents should also remember that Christmas Trees will be collected on their new designated yard waste pick-up day. The Yard Waste Zones are as follows:
YWZ 1 – South of Montauk Highway – Monday pick-up
YWZ 2 – Between Montauk Highway and Sunrise Highway – Tuesday pick-up
YWZ 3 – Between Sunrise Highway and Southern State Parkway – Wednesday pick-up
YWZ 4 – Between Southern State Parkway and Long Island Avenue – Thursday pick-up
YWZ 5 – North of Long Island Avenue or North of Long Island Railroad tracks – Friday Pick-up
“This new system of picking up our residents’ yard waste is more environmentally friendly and increases efficiency to provide better service to our taxpayers,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “By picking up yard waste by zone, we will be cutting down on thousands of truck miles driven while saving fuel costs. I urge our residents to consult their 2014 recycling calendar for more information on this, as well as everything you need to know about recycling and garbage pick-up.”
Yard waste will not be picked up on holidays and will instead be picked up the next week on the resident’s usually scheduled pick-up day.
Residents should also remember that pick-up of bottles and cans alternates every Wednesday with pick-up of papers, except during holiday weeks when they are picked up on regular garbage days (Thursday or Friday) and that E-Waste will be picked up curbside on the same days as bottles and cans.
