Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez recently honored Girl Scout Juniors and Girl Scout Cadettes from Lindenhurst’s Troop 382 for receiving their Bronze and Silver Awards. Supervisor Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Martinez joined with Assemblyman Robert Sweeney, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, Lindenhurst Village Deputy Mayor Michael Lavorata and Trustee Joan Masterson in congratulating the girl scouts on their achievements.
The Girl Scout Cadettes were awarded their Silver Awards for various projects that they completed in the community, including a self-esteem awareness program for young girls, hosting a Pet Adoption Day, making washable cat beds for the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter, a food drive for Last Hope Animal Rescue and working to restore a garden at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Silver Awards are the highest honor awarded to Girl Scout Cadettes, which is the rank awarded to girl scouts from sixth to eighth grade.
Girl Scout Juniors consist of girl scouts from fourth and fifth grade and are awarded the Bronze Award. The Girl Scout Juniors from Troop 382 received their Bronze Awards for the completion of their project, which was to collect used and unwanted crayons from local schools, which were then made into camp fire starters.
