Over 20,000 masks, 10,000 protective suits to be distributed to community organizations
Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman DuWayne Gregory recently accepted a donation of over 20,000 disposable face masks, 150 pairs of goggles and 150 face shields from various members of the Chinese American Association. The town is working on a plan to distribute a large portion of the donation to various community groups throughout the town, especially ones that run food banks and other resources for residents in need.
“This amazing donation is going to go a long way in supplying our residents with the necessary personal protective equipment to stay safe from COVID-19 as the Long Island region progresses through the various reopening phases,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “We are so grateful to Mark Jia of the Chinese American Association and his partners for their commitment to helping our communities when we need it the most,” he added.
Also in attendance were Marcus Duffin, the Town of Babylon’s Special Projects Director and Daniel Lloyd, a member of the town’s Youth Bureau team and founder of Minority Millennials, Inc, who will be one of the recipients of the PPE. We have also donated additional 100,000 masks and 500 protective gowns to the hospitals, post office, resident buildings, police station, and senior homes/homeless shelters, and schools throughout greater NY areas.
